Excellence in Agriculture Award
The Excellence in Agriculture contest recognizes individuals and couples who promote the agricultural industry through their daily work routine but do not receive their primary source of income from an agricultural enterprise. Contestants will complete an application and, if selected as a finalist, will make a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation to a panel of judges outlining their leadership accomplishments and their responses to a few key questions such as: 1. How is your occupation involved in agriculture/agribusiness? 2. What opportunities exist for you to have a positive impact on agriculture? 3. List and explain three important issues that agriculture needs to address in the next five years.
How does it work? Contestants will complete an application and submit it to the home office no later than June 23, 2010. Finalists will be contacted and will compete at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 2010 Annual Meeting in December where they will give a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation before a panel of judges. Following the 15-minute presentation, there will be a 10-minute question-and-answer session.
When will it be held? The Young Farmers Excellence in Agriculture contest finals will be held i December 5 at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Alabama Farmers Federation in Mobile, Alabama.
What are the prizes? The winner of the Excellence in Agriculture contest will receive an expense-paid trip to the American Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in January, 2010, $500 from Dodge and a matching award from the Alabama Farmers Federation. Cash prizes will be awarded to the runners-up as well. The national winner will receive a nicely equipped brand-new Dodge Ram 1500! Who is eligible? Any member of an Alabama Farmers Federation Young Farmers County Committee between the ages of 18 and 35, but who has not reached their 36th birthday by Jan. 31, 2010 they may compete at the AFBF Annual Meeting. Competitors must be actively involved in agriculture but do not receive their primary source of income from an agricultural enterprise. Furthermore, competitors must meet all the eligibility criteria of the American Farm Bureau (see application for further details).
