Youth Leadership Conference
2008 Youth Leadership Conference, June 20-22 Alabama 4-H Center Columbiana, AL
“Success is not found in getting what you want ….but in learning to give what you have.”
Whether a student chooses farming, teaching, medicine, law, or business, there are trade organizations, industry associations, and charitable organizations that rely on a steady supply of members who have cultivated leadership skills and are willing to take on the responsibility of leadership. The Alabama Farmers Federation is no exception. We owe our long term strength to these leaders, and want to do our part to make sure Alabama has many to choose from.
"Our focus is to teach Alabama high school students to recognize the responsibilities they have to develop into effective leaders……"
The ALFA Youth Leadership Conference is a three day two- night conference whose mission is to teach Alabama high school students that regardless of the what career path they choose, there are industry and trade organizations in Alabama and beyond in need of strong leaders to carry out the organization’s mission. Our focus is to teach them to recognize the responsibilities they have to develop into effective leaders so they can be prepared to give back to their communities, schools, and churches.
Who is it for? If you are an outstanding Sophomore, Junior, or Senior (ages 15 to 19 by the first day of the Conference) that would benefit from detailed training in leadership, becoming service-minded, and accepting responsibility for the purpose of benefiting others, this conference is for you! Conference Registration is limited to 150 delegates on a first-come first-served basis. The delegates consist of 100+ young people (male and female) ages 15-19 (approximately 90% 15 -16) from all across the state. We like to think they are the "cream of the crop" since they are selected by their county Farmers Federation Young Farmers Committees. While we are dedicated 100% to protecting and promoting agriculture in Alabama, only a small portion of these attendees come from a farming background.
What Does it cost? Each county Farmers Federation Young Farmers Committee and/or County Farmers Federation Board of Directors will pay the $150.00 Registration Fee for delegates and adult chaperons. The number of delegates is up to the county Farmers Federation.
Where is it held? It is held at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana, Alabama. Visit their website. Of course, there is time to play. Included in the weekend are activities such as high and low ropes courses, rock climbing, hiking, volleyball, tennis, and swimming.
How do I register? All applications must come from the County Young Farmers Committee or the County Farmers Federation County President. To contact the County Young Farmers Chairman in your county, click here.
EACH COUNTY IS ASKED TO SEND 1 ADULT CHAPERONE FOR EVERY 4 DELEGATES THAT REGISTER. AGES OF CHAPERONES SHOULD BE 21 OR OLDER.
This is a great opportunity for the youth of Alabama to begin developing the tools necessary to become leaders in their schools and communities. If you have any further questions, please call:
